Urban planning concept

2022

The merger of the former Johann Comenius Primary School and the Emmerthal Secondary School into a new educational centre is based on the concept of a learning village. The new learning village will be located on the site of the former HRS, while the site of the former primary school to the north of Neue Straße will remain free and can be used for other purposes. The special learning house concept is reflected structurally, with five pentagonal learning houses grouped around a central schoolyard, including the Kultur(n)halle. The learning houses for the primary school are located in the northern part of the site, the HRS learning houses in the southern part. The building figure is complemented by central stairwells for the primary school and the HRS, as well as a single-storey connecting link facing the schoolyard. To the north, the positioning of the buildings addresses the school centre with the Kultur(n)platz towards Neue Strasse. The opening of the façades of the Kultur(n)halle to the square enables a variety of utilisation options for the school community, but also for the local community. Along Jahnstrasse, the design takes up the scale of the residential development opposite through the arrangement of the buildings alternating with green courtyards.
