‘The casket’
New construction of the event centre with office floor
1994 -1998
In keeping with the special function of a prestigious conference building, the design of the building is based on the image of a valuable case, a casket. The floor plan is organised according to this image – three shapes are set into the rectangle of the outer walls: the rotunda, which houses the central meeting room. The double tower for vertical access and the rectangle at the rear, into which partitions and sliding walls are integrated to accommodate both exhibition and seminar situations. The solitary stone structure contains the circular lecture hall and the training rooms, while the attic floor houses the offices, which are organised around an inner courtyard and crowns the building with a continuous band of glass, while the roof terrace with its view over the Tiergarten to the Victory Column, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag is a special place for receptions and celebrations organised by the foundation.
