New construction of a sports and multi-purpose hall with canteen area

2012-2015

An outdated existing sports hall is being replaced on the same site by a new building with multiple utilisation options. School and club sports, an assembly hall with stage and a canteen for the school are the usage requirements, resulting in a compact two-storey building that positions itself as a ‘resting design pole’ between the diverse neighbourhood. The resulting solitary appearance is intended to provide a strong dialogue partner for the heterogeneous colour scheme of the existing building and give the venue a presence in the surrounding area. The central interior spaces are in dialogue with the design of the outdoor spaces: the foyer, which is also the canteen during school hours, opens up to the forecourt by means of large sliding doors. The sports areas, including the stage, which can be used as a gymnastics room, visually interact with the existing outdoor sports area, with concrete, wood, light and colour shaping the interior spaces. Together with 22quadrat/Osnabrück, the information and signage system was developed to become an integral part of the overall design.
