New construction of art studios and workshops at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle
2021
The aim of the new urban development concept is to emphasise and contextually anchor Burg Giebichenstein as a cultural institution with supra-regional appeal in the urban fabric of Seebener Strasse.
In keeping with the structural rhythm of Seebener Strasse, a sequence of buildings and gaps between the buildings form the new building line.
The gaps allow visual contact with the Bartholomäushügel with the church as a visual focal point. The fact that the studios at the rear remain single-storey means that the green hillside can also be perceived. The edge of the forest at the foot of the hill is broken up and led onto the site. The courtyard at the rear interweaves with the greenery of Bartholomäushügel as a work garden and experimental space for the Burg students that is kept free of vehicle traffic.
